Y-kampus studies 2020-2021

Y-kampus offers studies that inspire towards entrepreneurship and develops working life skills. Studies are meant for all students of Tampere University and TAMK, no matter the programme nor class. You can participate one course or design a whole scheme that fits your study plan. The courses are divided into three categories:

  • Become inspired and orientate – explore entrepreneurship and develop your working life skills
  • Practice in projects – deepen your skills and take advantage of your expertise in real life projects
  • Pressure test your idea – take your business idea or your company to the next level

On Y-kampus courses you will develop skills that are useful in both studies and working life:

You don’t have to have a business idea or a running business to join Y-kampus courses. Many of our courses offer excellent opportunities to build up your working life skills and self-development. At Y-kampus you can also grow your network in Tampere university community and learn valuable skills for your future that you probably won’t get in your basic studies. As a bonus you might get a spark to develop your own business idea!

Besides studies Y-kampus offers sparring and mentoring for entrepreneurship and designing your dreamwork.

Become inspired and orientate

On these courses you will explore entrepreneurship and develop your working life skills.

Orientation to entrepreneurship

This course offers you inspiring stories and career insights by multiple entrepreneurs. You will learn about entrepreneurship and brainstorming, change and how to adapt into it, the challenges of entrepreneurship and different ways to be an entrepreneur. The course consists of online lectures and learning assigments. Lectures are spoken in Finnish but texted in English. The assignments can be made in English. As visiting lecturers their stories are sharing for example Antti Merilehto, Anna Juusela and Anssi Rantanen.

PERIOD 1 | FINNISH AND ENGLISH | 5 ECTS

Self-knowledge as a working life skill

On this course you will reflect how personality affects behavior at work and get to know your own personal strengths and areas that need developing. The course also dives into psychological capital.

This course offers

  • possibility to develop your self-knowledge
  • means to understand different styles to communicate
  • ability to develop successful team working skills

This course is only available in Finnish.

Service Design in developing a business

On this course you will orientate into user-centered thinking in developing a business. You will explore the different tools and methods of Service Design. This is an online course and you can develop your own theme during the course.

On this course you

  • learn the basics of Service Design
  • experiment methods and tools in solving a real-life situation
  • learn the basics of facilitation

This course is only available in Finnish.

Future board work

This course will familiarize you with board works’ meaning in company development. You will hear real-life examples of the boards’ role in leading a company. This course is produced in co-operation with Hallituspartnerit and Future Board.

On this course you

  • get practical information on how a board works
  • learn to evaluate and develop your own abilities to work in an organisations’ board
  • explore a real board on a visit to a company

PRACTICE IN PROJECTS

Deepen your skills and take advantage of your expertise in projects where you get to solve real-life challenges in multidisciplinary teams.

Sprint Innovation Festival

On Sprint Innovation Festival multidisciplinary student teams solve real-world problems for companies and municipalities. Sprint Innovation Festival brings together students, companies and various organisations for a full week.

As a student you

  • practice skills that employers look for and appreciate
  • build up network and boost your job hunting
  • learn and adopt a design process for solving everyday problems

PERIOD 2 | FINNISH AND ENGLISH| 2-5 ECTS

Innovation Challenges 

Innovation Challenges is all about solving problems in real life projects in multidisciplinary teams. You will learn to develop a concept and to use team learning to solve complicated problems. You will also develop valuable working life skills like performing, networking and successful team working. The course is built like an innovation process in practice and includes also materials and performing the outcome. The challenge can be the sustainable development of an industry or the market situation modified by COVID-19, for example.

Y-portfolio 

Y-Portfolio gives you an opportunity to bring your practical experience about entrepreneurship and working life skills to become a part of your curriculum. The content of this course is tailored individually with each student and will be based on personal learning targets. This is done together with a coach. You will create a personalized plan on how to gain knowledge and document the results. The plan is reviewed with the coach before starting the assignment.

Relevant examples of such practical experiences are for example developing your business idea or your company, volunteering to work in an entrepreneurial association or training program related to entrepreneurship (accelerator etc.).

By doing Y-portfolio you

  • can develop business and understand the key factors of success in developing business, like team expertise and agile experiments
  • learn to see possibilities and vision the future
  • can apply knowledge systematically and consistently
  • learn to manage yourself and evolve your creativity
PERIODS 1, 2, 3, 4 | FINNISH AND ENGLISH| 1-10 ECTS

C-Lab 

C-LAB is an 8-week sprint where ideas are developed from demo to a concrete launching plan. You will co-operate and work in a multidisciplinary team together with the idea creator/ owner. You will do different learning assignments and create a launch plan – with the help and sparring from a coach.

On this course you

  • understand the different phases in a commercialization process
  • can apply knowledge and modern development tools
  • can use lean methodology and consumer centricity for launch plan
  • can work together and co-operate with others to develop ideas and turn them into action

You already have a business idea, or a running business and you are ready take it to the next level.

Startup Experience Pre-incubator

An innovative and internationally interesting pre-incubator programme which combines the methods of teamcoaching, purposeful development of team skills and individuals alongside the traditional business development.

Startup Experience is a pre-incubator programme that supports the teams in taking the first steps towards entrepreneurship. You will get support in building a successful team and refining and conceptualization of the business idea. In this pre-incubator we will develop your business idea to the next level – together with the team and coaches. Team members will get a good package of information and knowledge in creating and working in a successful team.
